Barrett says on CNN he's 'one vote behind' in polling, Priebus says guv doing better than president

Tom Barrett said on CNN's "State of the Union" this morning that his tracking polling had him "one vote behind, not one percentage point behind, but one vote behind."

"I am going to win it," the mayor said on the show while discussing his tracking pollin from two nights ago.

Barrett was pressed on why the president has not campaigned for him in Wisconsin and the national implications of Tuesday's vote. He said the president has "got a lot going on," that this race started as a grassroots movement in Wisconsin and should fininsh up that way. He downplayed any national significance to the results, saying Scott Walker wants to nationalize the race.

"Scott Walker wants to make this a national race because he wants to be on the national stage as the rock star of the right right, as the power boy of the Tea Party," Barrett said. "That's not what I'm interested in. I'm not going to be the rock star of the far right and I'm frankly not going to be the rock star of the far left. I'm focusing on this state because that's what's important to me."

While on CBS's "Face the Nation" this morning to talk about the president's policies, RNC Chair Reince Priebus compared him unfavorable to Walker.

The appearance largely focused on the president, but Priebus was also asked about the recalls in Wisconsin and said the difference between Walker and the president "is pretty stark."

"You know, people's property taxes have gone down. And, you know, you can't keep operating a government that spends more money than it takes in," Priebus said. "So, Scott Walker is one of these special people that have made promises and kept promises. You contrast that to David Axelrod's boss, he's a president who is in love with the sound of his own voice but hasn't been able to follow through on too many promises so that's really David's problem and the president's problem."
