GAB totals more than 206,000 absentee ballots; state on pace to eclipse Nov. 2010 total
The Government Accountability Board has tallied more than 206,000 absentee ballots issued ahead of the recall election as of noon today, putting the state on pace to eclipse the total of absentee ballots filed during the November 2010 general election.
Today's total includes ballots requested by mail and in-person absentee voting in municipalities that track ballots using the Statewide Voter Registration System. That accounts for roughly one-third of all municipalities and all large cities.
The latest total is more than three times the number of absentee ballots tracked by SVRS in the recall primary, and is approaching the 230,744 absentee ballots were cast in 2010.
A GAB spokesman said the agency expects the absentee ballot total to eclipse 2010 levels when all municipalities are factored in.
The early voting period ended Friday; mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and received by local clerks by 4 p.m. Friday.
