S.C. gov.: Country watching ahead of recall election

At a rally for Gov. Scott Walker today, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley told employees at Quad/Graphics in Sussex that the country is watching what happens in Wisconsin.

Haley said the country is watching because many remember the budget deficit the state faced before Walker took office.

“They’re not looking at Wisconsin for the protestors that you had, they’re not looking at Wisconsin for the chaos that they saw, they’re looking at Wisconsin because they remember what Wisconsin was like three years ago,” Haley said.

She said that Americans love fighters and Walker was not thinking about this year or this election, but instead was focused on the future.

“Are you going to reward the courage that he showed?” Haley asked the audience.

She added: “If you have his back when its at its hardest, you are showing governors like me that when we fight for you, you will have our back and that helps all governors across the country.”

During his turn at the microphone, Walker criticized opponent Tom Barrett for not saying how he would have balanced the state’s budget.

“All we can do is look at the city of Milwaukee and guess what he might do,” Walker said.

Seeing a “Stand with Walker” sign in the audience, Walker said he is proud to see similar signs “because I stand with the hard-working taxpayers of this state.”

“If you elect me governor again on June 5th, I’ll continue to stand with the hard-working taxpayers of this state,” he said.

Walker continued to tout his reforms as well as surveys showing a shift from 10 percent to 94 percent of employers that think the state’s business climate is headed in the right direction.

“I’m competitive,” Walker said. “I want to know what’s wrong with the other 6 percent.”

After the both of the governors spoke, they toured portions of the Quad/Graphics floor with Walker wearing the blue uniform shirt the company presented him with. Before the tour, Walker noted how he enjoys touring manufacturers in the state.

“I’m like a kid, I love seeing how things are made in the state of Wisconsin,” Walker told the audience.
