Counting ballots ends in 21st SD recount
The last ballots have been counted in the 21st SD recall recount, and the Racine Board of Canvassers has moved on tallying the results and completing required paperwork, according to representatives for the campaigns.
The representatives did not immediately have a final number on the recount.
The latest tally posted at the GAB site over the weekend showed GOP Sen. Van Wanggaard gained a net 17 votes over the official canvass, which had his challenger, Dem John Lehman, up by 834 votes.
The window for legal challenges begins Tuesday, and parties have through July 10 to file a lawsuit.
If no party files suit, GAB spokesman Reid Magney said the GAB would likely certify the results on July 11. If a lawsuit is filed, the results will not be certified until the matter is resolved.
