PPP Poll: Romney trails Obama in Wisconsin by 6 points; race tightens with Ryan on ticket
A new poll from Public Policy Polling shows Mitt Romney trailing Barack Obama by six percentage points in Wisconsin, but nearly closing that gap if GOP Rep. Paul Ryan joins the tickets as his running mate.
Voters preferred Obama to Romney 50 percent to 44 percent in a head-to-head matchup but narrowed that lead to 47 percent for Obama to 46 percent for Romney when Ryan was added as a VP. When Gov. Scott Walker was added to the ticket, the gap remained, with 49 percent preferring Obama's ticket and 43 percent preferring Romney's.
In addition, 51 percent of voters had a favorable opinion of Walker, while 46 percent had an unfavorable opinion.
The poll also surveyed voters for their opinion on Supreme Court Justice John Roberts and the health care decision. About 39 percent of those polled weren't sure of their opinion on Roberts, while 31 percent disapproved and 30 percent approved. The health care decision was split down the middle, with 46 percent approving of the ruling and 44 percent disapproving.
The poll, which surveyed 1,057 voters from July 5-8 through automated telephone calls, had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points.
