Wanggaard won't challenge recall results, to run for 21st SD again in next election
GOP state Sen. Van Wanggaard announced this morning he will not challenge the results of a recount in his narrow loss to Dem John Lehman in the recall election for the 21st SD.
Wanggaard, R-Racine, raised a series of questions about how the vote was handled June 5 and the results of the recount, which wrapped up last week. But facing a deadline today to file a suit, he said there "was not enough time to fully investigate the mountain of evidence and answer the questions that have arisen."
He also announced he will run for the 21st SD again in the next election.
"As General Douglas MacArthur once said, 'I shall return,'” he said.
Wanggaard's decision clears the way for Lehman to retake the seat he lost to Wanggaard in 2010 and will put Dems in control of the state Senate 17-16 through the end of the session.
