American Future Fund starts TV ad knocking Obama over Janesville GM plan
The American Future Fund says it is running statewide its TV ad that features the former Janesville General Motors plant and Barack Obama's 2008 speech at the facility suggesting it could last another 100 years if the government provided it needed assistance.
The spot opens with a black screen and the text "His words ... gave us hope" as Obama is heard saying at the plant in 2008 that "if our government is there to support you and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years."
It then cuts to audio of GOP vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan speaking at the Republican National Convention as text appears "But results matter more than promises."
Ryan says the plant didn't last another year as the text on the screen reads "April 2009: "GM plan in Janesville closing for good ..." citing an Associated Press article. The date and "closing for good" remain on the screen.
The spot repeats Obama saying the plant would be there for another hundred years as the text on the screen reads, "Enough talk. Mr. President. It's time for new leadership."
