Baldwin ad hammers Thompson on Medicare drug prices
A new ad from the campaign of Tammy Baldwin hits Tommy Thompson for a "sweetheart deal" with pharmaceutical companies during his time as Health and Human Services Secretary.
The 30-second TV ad, titled "Pill," begins by showing a Lipitor pill, noting its ability to prevent heart attacks. The narrator then claims that while the pill costs the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs $1.37, it costs taxpayers "three times more" under Medicare.
"Why," the narrator asks. "Tommy Thompson. That's right, its Tommy who cut a sweetheart deal with drug companies while working for George Bush, making it illegal for Medicare to negotiate lower prices."
The ad then claims that he worked in a lobbying firm for drug companies. It ends with the line "Tommy Thompson: He's not for you anymore."
