New Wall polling memo says Dem trails Ribble by 6 percent
An internal polling memo from the campaign of 8th CD Dem challenger Jamie Wall claims Wall has managed to close the gap with GOP U.S. Rep. Reid Ribble to 6 percentage points.
The poll, conducted Normington Petts, shows Wall trailing Ribble 41 percent to 47 percent. According to a graphic in the memo, Wall trailed by 15 percentage points in June. The most recent poll of 400 likely 8th CD voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percentage points and was conducted Sept. 18-19.
The memo notes that while polling shows Wall leading with seniors and women, he only receives 79 percent of the vote among Democrats, compared to at least 90 percent for Barack Obama and Tammy Baldwin. The memo argues Wall has room to grow his support.
The memo also says Obama and Baldwin are doing better in the 8th CD. In June, Mitt Romney led the president there 49-44, but that gap has narrowed to one point, 47-46. Meanwhile, Baldwin has gone from trailing Tommy Thompson 52-36 to leading him 50-42.
