PPP: Baldwin leads Thompson by 3 points
A new poll shows U.S. Senate candidates Tammy Baldwin maintaining a small lead over Tommy Thompson.
The Public Policy Polling survey shows Baldwin leading Thompson 49 percent to 46 percent, within the poll's margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Baldwin's lead is mostly attributable to her edge with independent voters, who break for her over Thompson 52-40. Thompson's favorability ratings have also contributed to Baldwin's lead, with only 43 percent of voters viewing the former governor favorably and 50 percent viewing him unfavorably.
Baldwin's numbers were only marginally better, however. Only 44 percent of voters viewed her favorably compared to 47 percent who viewed her unfavorably.
The automated telephone poll of 979 likely Wisconsin was conducted Oct. 4-6.
