SEIU targets African-American votes in pair of radio ads
SEIU is spending $300,000 in Nevada, Ohio and Wisconsin on a pair of ads running on African-American radio stations encouraging listeners to support Obama.
The spots also knock Romney. One opens with a man saying, “I don’t think Mitt Romney gets it,” while a woman adds, “I think he supports the rich.”
The narrator says, “Here’s what our neighbors are saying about the election Nov. 6.”
The spot then pivots to those in the ad saying things such as, “I truly believe that President Obama cares about the American people.”
The people featured in the spot then encourage listeners to vote Nov. 6 and warn those who don’t are playing into the hands of people seeking to suppress the vote.
The second spot features a woman leaving a voicemail, telling a man their talk got her thinking and “I can’t sit out this election and let Mitt Romney walk into the White House and set us back 50 years.”
The woman says Obama took over a mess from George Bush, stopped the economy from getting worse, created millions of jobs, made sure “we have health care” and is investing in the community’s future.
“So we’ve got to keep him in the White House to finish the job,” she says. “Plus, I’ve been hear about how Romney and the Republicans are trying to stop people from voting. That’s outrageous in the year 2012.”
