Vos withdraws support for Rivard
Rep. Robin Vos, who has led the Assembly GOP campaign efforts, issued a statement late Thursday saying he cannot support Rep. Roger Rivard, R-Rice Lake, after controversial comments he made regarding rape.
"I cannot stand behind Roger Rivard," Vos said in an email statement. "Rape is a horrible, violent act. His comments are unacceptable and embarrassing. Assembly Republicans have always fought to protect those who can't protect themselves. Any person who has ever been a victim of a violent crime is offended by these comments and has every right to be. This race has never been about endorsements from one politician or another; this race will be decided by the people of the 75th district."
Vos took a much softer approach to the comments earlier in the day during a WisPolitics.com luncheon. Bos that he didn't think Rivard had done "as good a job as he could have" in explaining his thoughts, but added that he thought voters would reelect Rivard based on his "entire record, not a single sentence."
