Baldwin: Comparison to Biden during debate one of 'highest compliments'
BELOIT -- U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin joked this morning that Tommy Thompson calling her Joe Biden in one of their debates was "one of the highest compliments" in their campaign.
Speaking before the vice president at a rally at Aldrich Middle School, the Dem Senate candidate railed against her GOP opponent -- who made the reference to Biden in a Wausau debate last month -- and pledged, "If I have the honor to serve as your next United States senator, your voices will be heard."
"Too many families that are working hard, playing by the rules, are just getting by," Baldwin said. "It isn't our work ethics; we are the best workforce in the world. I submit that it's the rules that have changed."
She charged that Thompson would back the nation's most powerful interests, saying, "Tommy's running to be a voice for Tommy."
"I'm running to make sure that you have a fair shot," she said.
And Baldwin also slammed Thompson for "questioning my patriotism," urging the audience to help her in the final days of the campaign and show "these divisive and dishonest politics have to place in Wisconsin."
